Our client, a market leader in the bulk transportation of construction materials, seeks to employ BEE trade tested, qualified and experienced Workshop Foreman/Manager for their operation in the West Rand. 

 Please note: Due to the company’s BEE policies, this role is to replace a BEE candidate, therefore only BEE candidates can be considered. 

 The position is a hands on role, whereby the Foreman/Manager leads a team of Diesel Mechanics but also gets involved in complex mechanical failure of vehicles, as well as workshop administration, managing operating expenses, budgets and reporting on Excel is essential. 

 Working knowledge of diagnostic tools and complex problem solving is essential and preference is given to those with experience in vehicular electronic systems.

 This role would not suit a candidate who has not been exposed to managing staff, you must have a proven track record in managing staff, performance, meting of KPI’s and planning/delegating of tasks both daily and monthly. 

 In addition, you must have sound working knowledge of HSE, be computer literate in Excel (Intermediate or Advanced), be able to lead and delegate effectively and

 This role is NOT suited to Mechanical Engineering graduates or those who have not completed a recognised trade test, through a South African accredited institution.  This is also not suited to candidates from a vehicle dealership or car rental based sector, this is geared toward candidates from the Transportation sector only

 You will reside in and around the West Rand and be available to travel, often at short notice, to attend to breakdowns or attend to site based equipment problems when needed.

 The role would ideally suit a more mature candidate, who understands the dynamic of an architectural and or Consulting Engineering firm, who enjoys a diverse portfolio of functions, who is friendly and professional to manage the switchboard and attend to clients arriving for meetings and willing to assist the two Directors with a variety of tasks pertaining to property administration for two small subsidiary businesses.

Our client, an International manufacturer and supplier of construction materials, seeks to employ a specialized, energetic, mobile and suitably qualified candidate, to manage the Equipment and Fleet workshop.  This is role focuses on solid track record in strong leadership, natural planning, co-ordinating and problem solving skills and the ability to “work smart”, although a good understanding of the industry and environment is required, this role is more geared to securing the right type of manager, meeting the key personal attributes.

 This role is NOT a production/manufacturing equipment or factory machinery based role, it is geared toward fleet vehicles and construction site equipment. 

 Please note that this position does require a candidate that can travel to provide leadership and guidance to the smaller depots in the Free State and greater Gauteng.  The position is geared toward a mid-career level candidate and is NOT a senior management suited role, due to the size of the respective workshop. 

 Please read the specifics before submitting your application; this is a demanding position, requiring an above average planner, a good administrator, a strong leader, a proactive organiser and an effective communicator. 

 The requirements to meet for consideration would be:

  • You will need to have a Mechanical Engineering qualification or a trade as a Diesel Technician, coupled with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the co-ordination, parts procurement, report generations, forward planning of preventative maintenance schedules and technical assessments of heavy duty vehicles and equipment.
  • A knowledge of vehicular electronic component would be highly advantageous
  • You will have proven experience in planning of fleet allocations, take responsibility for monthly maintenance scheduling, co-ordinate safety/roadworthiness without affecting the pre-planned schedule and be assertive in the communication with the workshop team on the daily, weekly and monthly expectations for the vehicles assigned to them.
  • You will be professional, be a natural leader, liaise effectively at all levels and be prepared to travel at short notice to ensure KPI’s are met and problem solve effectively both on site and in the workshop.
  • You will ensure quality and HSE standards are met and adhered to and be able to smoothly roll out new policies and procedures
  • Fluency in English is essential and Intermediate to Advanced MS Office (Excel/Word) is essential
  • You will have prior experience in budget management, reporting and performance management of staff
