This prominent non-profit organisation, working in the realm of human and socio-economic rights, aiming to reduce poverty and also give protection to vulnerable women and children , seeks to appoint a well-experienced Communications and Media Manager.   The overall purpose of this role is to develop and communicate  the objectives and practical programmes information to both external and internal stakeholders, supporting programmes and advancement of the organization in the community and within civil society.

The core areas of responsibility will  include:

  • External Communications: public media especially the Press and TV, social media and news letters
  • Public Relations:   Annual report, organisational branding, marketing and communications both internally and externally
  • Project and Staff Management, including administration, financial controls, budgets, of Fundraising projects and PR Campaigns
  • Planning and Management reporting.

The core skills required are:-

  •  Candidates for this position must have a degree in JOURNALISM or a relevant SOCIAL SCIENCE degree, and experience in  Research and investigative reporting.
  •  Sound knowledge and understanding of key issues in the area of human rights, social justice, poverty and inequality, socio-  economic  rights and  a good grasp of the broader political and developmental context in South Africa;
  •  Knowledge and understanding of the role of civil society in building democracy
  •  Knowledge and understanding media and communications, information management, and Advanced English writing skills and preference for a further two South African languages at a verbal and written level.
  • Excellent project management skills, strong planning, organisational, strategic and analytical skills
  • Confidence in document development, information and communication technology, including website and social media
  • Experience in producing Annual Reports, Newsletters, and other important forms of information dissemination.
  • Planning and organisational skills - prioritise work and manage time effectively
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence and own transport.

DONOR  RELATIONSHIP  MANAGER - PROMINENT ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANISATION

This prominent Animal Welfare organisation relies heavily on donor funding to sustain both the animals and the running of the organisation, and therefore it is essential to maintain long term relationships with supporters and to create new opportunities to grow the database of people who will support this crucial operation.  Working as part of the Fundraising team, this role is responsible for leading the donor retention strategy, as well as driving the recruitment of new and upgraded donors.  It is essential that you have a passion for animals and can align yourself with the mission of the organisation – COMBINED WITH THE ESSENTIAL SKILLS AS OUTLINED BELOW.

 This role demands the following attributes and skills:-

  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form, particularly in English and Afrikaans
  • Ability to be primary point of contact for all supporter enquiries – and to provide quality supporter services such as thank you letters
  • Be able to analyse data and trends to understand donor activity and behaviour, and improve effectiveness
  • Provide support to the other team members to enhance their results and success (e.g. peer to peer fundraising, or events)
  • Manage the telephone fundraising unit, including the development of systems, and controls for debit orders  and lapsed donors
  • Continually seek new methods to improve telephone interaction with donors and generation of increased funding.
  • Excellent computer skills on Database systems such as Access, as well as Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, able to meet deadlines, and ability to plan ahead.
  • Ability to be an active member of the Fundraising team in terms of all functions and events that take place throughout the year.
  • Only candidates with Matric and a clean Credit and Criminal Record will be considered.
